Braun Series 5, a cut above..

5

Received my Braun Series 5 (5140) Razor and have been using for 3 days now. Previously been using an older series 7 and this is even better. I love the fact i can shave whilst in the shower with the Wet and dry option and the handle is really good. Even the sideburns trimmer is much better. Razors seem to keep evolving and improving with Braun my most trusted. Its around £100 on Amazon and well worth the money.

Ticks all the boxes

5

I use an electric shaver everyday so I can give this a fair review. This Braun Series 5 shaved is one of the best shavers I have ever used. The 50 minutes of charge allows a full shave everyday for at least a week, providing a nice smooth finish. The shaver is quite a handful but worth it as it gets into all those tough to reach areas. I doubted the closeness when using it in the shower but was proved wrong again by the smooth finish. The protective cover and cleaner helps maintain the shaver and the blue LED lights show the status of the charge which is a good thing to know. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a reliable shaver which ticks all the boxes.

Best I’ve tried

If you’re in need of a quick shave to tidy up then this works very well, a smooth shaver with no pulling on the hairs it simply cuts them, charges really fast as long as you have an adaptor for the 2 pin plug it comes with, and 50 mins of usable charge in the built in battery should see me through about a week, you get a blade cover and a brush to keep the foils clean, and can be washed under running water! In the more tricky areas it did leave a few hairs behind but still cut them very short, this is the only negative I’ve found, overall a very good product

Very good close shave

Having used rechargeable shavers before I have always found Braun products among the best. This one is the best of the lot. Really easy to use and gives a good close shave in no time. I would highly recommend this product for anyone who wants the closeness of a wet shave without the time consuming hassle. It is super quick to charge and the battery indicator shows exactly how much charge you have left before another charge will be needed. Also super quick and easy to clean, either wet or dry. I can't praise this shaver highly enough, I'll never go back to wet shaving now!!

Very good, not excellent.

Solidly built, reassuringly bulky but not too unwieldy and simple. In an age of electronic interfaces everywhere, it was nice to use a device that was simple and unbusy. You don't need a computer degree to operate it and it's pretty complete in its job. The test was a hard one. I had nine days of stubble (A mix of A long week and short nights) meant this shaver was getting a thorough test. A razor fan by heart, I was dubious. I was mostly wrong. Fully charged, the shaver is a beast. Started to shave and immediately noticed the shaver struggle slightly on my stubble. Now, wether this was down to my facial hair being a bit thicker than most, I'm not sure but I carried on. Once I got used to the shaver, it performed excellently. I normally get sensitive skin very soon after when using shavers, however, 12 hours on and my skin feels good (You will have to excuse the photo, it's midnight and I have just got home from work!). Close shave and no irritation. Whilst I prefer the floating head type of shaver, this might just change my mind.

The wetter the better!!

Well I’ve never done that before! Was my first thought. An electric shave with shaving cream and water. Whilst the Braun 5140s claims to give a very close shave and even in the hard to reach places with wet or dry shaving I needed to try it out for my self. I resorted to the half’n half Technique of one wet and one dry side of my face. Excuse the photo I was getting ready for work so was pushed for time. The dry shave was pleasantly surprising especially after I mastered the lock for the rotating head and managed to get into the top of lip and nose and areas on the chin line. It started to feel a lot like other electric razors when I noticed I was missing some of the finer hairs on the neck. But after a few nifty reverse movements I had a pretty soft chin and a clean shave. Then into the wet shave. Would it work? Would it kill me? Answers are Yes and No and by the fact you are reading this it was in that order too. It seemed strange at first but there was hardly any snagging or pulling and shaving felt very comfortable. I managed to overcome my fears of electric and water easily after rinsing clean every few seconds and was amazed at the shaving experience. Not only was the shave close and smooth but somehow deeper as some 5 hrs on still smooth on the wet side and a little rough on the dry side. The ultimate test was the Daughter number 2 snuggle. Braving the fear of stubble she stepped up to the plate and assessed the shave with a cheek to cheek face rub. Judgement was a very smooth shave and she also preferred the wet side. So much so that daughters number 1&3 has to test it for themselves to. I even mater the accurate and lengthy grimmer which gave a very sharp finish to the burns and even managed a bit of ear hair too! The only criticism I could share is that it was a little on the cumbersome side. Whether it was the size of the handle the weight or my little hands I am not sure. But a small price to pay for a good shave. For me this is a great shaver and I am looking forward to testing again tomorrow morning.

Great shave

It really is hard to fault this shaver. Out of the box you one of those cleaning brushes that i'm sure no one ever uses, a two pin charger which means you may need plug adaptor if you dont have the correct plug , you also get a shaving guard which is handy. The shaver has the usual pop up sideburn trimmer and the whole unit is very well made and doesn't feel at all cheap, it really does have the look and feel of a premium shaver with no corners cut in design and function. The shave it delivers is about as good as you are going to get with an electric shaver and I've always found Braun to be premium shaving brand competitors with this one being the same. In terms of charging it has quick charging which is great for a busy working man. After a full charge you get roughly an hour of shaving.

Quality product affordable price

I think the series 5 5140s is amazing, I have used electric razors for years and this has to be the best I've used by far. Very clean and close shave without the irritation. Rubberized grip gives you full control. I prefer the wet shave as it sails across the skin leaving it smooth and refreshed. I fully recommend this shaver!

A good close shave without irritation

The shaver itself feels high quality with a rubberised grip, a switch to toggle between fixed and adjustable shaver head and a retractable trimmer on the back. The first change took around an hour and it beeped to signal that charging was complete. The battery level is clearly displayed on the front of the shaver. The shaver dealt with fairly thick 5 day beard growth with no problem leaving the skin smooth to the touch with no stray hairs or irritation. What really impressed me was how it handled the neckline as it is usually a problem area. Cleaning is as simple as running the shaver under hot water which does the job. There is a cleaning station for this shaver but since I don't have it I can't comment on its effectiveness. I'm genuinely impressed with the shaver, it was fast and closer than I expected.

Braun Series 5 Shaver

Comparing this to my usual electric shaver (by another leading brand) is easy, hands down this gives me a closer, more comfortable shave. I have always used electric shavers and found that they do tend to leave my skin feeling quite dry and taut in some places, I din't have that issue with the Braun Series 5. Ergonomically it's a comfortable shaver to hold, the lockable head makes the more awkward places, like right under your nose, mush easier to shave and the speed at which it charges is excellent. As for the shave itself, it took less time than my usual electric shaver, probably due to the efficiency of the foil and it left my skin feeling a lot less dry and taut than usual. The only thing I am not yet sure about is the extendable foil for trimming sideburns etc, I found this a little difficult to use compared to others I have tried, but maybe it is just a case of getting used to something new. I'm looking forward to trying it out with some shaving gel to see how that feels/leaves my skin. All in all though, I am very impressed.
