A product spec that just doesn't deliver

So here we have the Braun S3 Shave&Style. It comes well packaged with a manual the size of a good novel, however the instructions are lacking to say the least. As one of the primary functions is to style and trim, it would have been nice to know what length the combs cut to. It also covers several models so tells you about all the great features you may have, but also were sadly missing from this model. The first thing you notice is how it feels in your hand. It's sturdy and has a good weight to it and feels well constructed. I've trialled a waterproof shaver before that I just felt I couldn't use in the shower, but this device instantly gives you the confidence that it's waterproof and semi-ruggidised. The interchangable head feels solid and secure, yet easy to switch between shaving and trimming/styling. I typically trim my stubble with facial clippers although do usually wet shave with a manual razor, so I was excited to try out this shaver and test out it's functions. The device itself charges quickly and on paper has a fantastic battery life! Sadly for me this is where the excitement ends. The first test was to try the clippers to trim well over a week's facial hair growth, to get it down to a level I could try shaving. I put on the smallest comb onto the clippers, and it just didn't cut well. What would normally take a few minutes to sort my entire face took well over 10 minutes, and it wasn't an even clip and it just didn't look or feel good. With this in mind I used my clippers to shave to 0.4mm to make it easier to shave. I then took the comb off of this Braun shaver to leave the raw "style" head, to tidy up my sideburns. To my shock, it just didn't work as I'd expect. I really struggled to shave and style my facial hair, and it just wasn't cutting. It didn't dig in or cut or harm me, it just didn't cut my hair!! I did try a few more times with the attachments and combs, but after the third try I gave up. This device for me does not style. So. Onto the shave. I'm not a huge fan of foil razors but I wanted to give it a fair shot. The first dry shave felt nice on my face, although some areas needed going over a few times to get the shave I wanted. It left my neck patchy at best, and even taking meticulous time to try to shave it all, it failed. I needed to follow up afterwards with a normal razor to get the parts it couldn't reach. So, I waited a few days to try the wet shave. This is sadly an experience that just felt wrong, using an electric device with foam and water. I didn't feel the need initially to use foam on this razor, and it didn't seem to help the performance. My face was still left fairly averagely shaved and the neck was still patchy. The only difference was having to clean the shaver head and mess around cleaning and drying it sufficiently. Shaving after trying 2 wet shaves made me add a bit of clipper oil to it, I'm not convinced the head is truly designed to wet shave. The manual does mention using clipper oil, but this is hastle for me. Does this device work for me? No. Sadly if I had bought this I would be disappointed and would be looking to buy another shaver. It's great in concept but the style heads just fundamentally do not work. Would I reccommend it to a friend? Sadly absolutely not. Would it work for you? Well other reviews seem to sing about the device, but I am not sure how genuine these are based on my experiences and if it were due to them getting the device for free to test. My low rating on this product is sadly due to half of the device just not doing as expected, not even managing to style on a mediocre level. It's a shame, as a standalone razor I'm sure it's a fairly good device just not for my skin/hair type. But, the style just completely lets it down. 3 in 1? No. It's a 1 with 2 other features that work poorly. Sorry Braun, for me this device was a complete letdown and is not the quality I expect from such a strongly positioned brand name.

A good shaver from a well known brand

After unboxing the shaver my first impressions on opening the parcel were that it looked sleek and professional. There wasn't too much packaging and most of it could go straight in the recycling bin which was a bonus. I plugged the shaver in to charge (I use an adapter for a UK wall socket) it was a bit loose and needed propping up to stay in the socket properly as the end of the plug is quite heavy. This wasn't a great first impression, but it might work better if you plugged it straight in to a shaver socket. It does hold its charge very well, I've only charged it once in 3 weeks but I don't shave every day. I've used the shaver for a clean shave and for trimming but a clean shave isn't something I do very often. The clean shave was good and smooth, everything I would expect from a good electric shaver. I use the trimmer more often which works well and trims my beard to the level I prefer it. Its easy to swap between the heads on the shaver and intuitive to use. In comparison to my usual shaver this one is a little heavier but its not really noticeable when you're using it, its still comfortable to use. The grooves and changes in material make it easy to grip when you're using it. It comes with a small bag to keep the accessories in which is helpful so they don't go missing. The protective cap fits snuggly and its something I've used a lot when storing the shaver. It also makes it so you can't accidentally turn it on if you pick it up (although you'd have to be trying pretty hard to do that without the protective cap on). I had fairly high hopes for the Braun Series 3 Shave&Style as they have a big presence on the shelves of shavers in the shops. Overall I was pleased with the experience of using the Braun shaver would recommend it to friends and family if it was within their budget.

Great for stuble

4

The first thing I would say is that it is very comfortable to use with a great grip. For someone who likes to change facial lengths whether it be a light beard to a stubble, it is a great product. The only small negative point is that it isn't great for sharp precise lining along the edges.

Up to the task - no matter the length!!

WHAT’S IN THE BOX Opening the Braun Series 3 Shave&Style 3010BT, the first thing I was struck by is how compact everything is. You get a full electric shaver, precision trimmer AND basically a pair of clippers in a small box about the size of an A4 piece of paper. The shaver itself is a good, solid size, fairly weighty in your hands but immediately feeling comfortable right away. The ergonomics of the design felt really impressive, and the soft grip was noticeable as soon as I picked it up. I was really pleased with the feel of the shaver. You also get the usual micro brush for cleaning the shaver head, and interchangeable clip for trimming, and 5 different comb clips – from numbers 1 to 5 – so you can style your beard, sideburns, even the hair on your head to the length you want. They come with a small plastic bag to keep them all together, but I didn’t think this was particularly impressive compared with the design of the shaver. There was also no case for the shaver, which could have been a nice addition. You get a standard charger the shaving outlet plug – so if you want to charge if via a regular plug, you’ll need an adapter. I always find this annoying, as I think shaving plugs are outdated – especially in homes. Personally, I think adapters should be included. But I did like the springy cord that was on the charger – this means you can stretch and pull as needed, without having to worry about wires getting tangled – a simple but effective touch. PREPARATION AND CHARGING The charger comes with some charge on it, so you can get stuck in straight away. I also really liked that it does have a quick charge function too – so if you’ve forgotten to charge it but are in rush, you only need to plug it in for 5 minutes to get enough battery power for a full shave. This makes a difference. The full charge is also fairly quick too, only taking a couple of hours, and from what I’ve seen after two weeks of using, the battery power lasts a long time. Even when it starts flashing red, you’ve got a least another couple of shaves before it goes dead. The shaver is best used on dry skin – which means it’s simple to just pick up and start using – ideal for anyone short on time. You can also use it wet as well, so it’s great for use in the shower too. To use the trimmer or comb attachments, you do need to change the head of the shaver completely, pulling off the foil razor and attaching the trimmer head. This is quick to do, but I did find getting the trimmer head off the and foil back on was sometimes a bit tricky – it doesn’t seem to squeeze from the sides as easy as going about it the other way around. Once you have the trimmer head on, attached the combs is really simple – they just slide on or off. Because there isn’t a huge difference between the sizes, you will need to look carefully at the numbers – they’re engraved in black on black combs so could be difficult to read – perhaps if they were white it would be easier. THE SHAVE On to the shave itself, and I have no complaints at all. For the first time with any electric or manual razor, I can completely shave, trim and style my full beard without needed to use two different devices. I use one of the combs to get the length I want, switch down to the precision trimmer to shorten my moustache and define some clear lines, and then change the head to the foil shaver to get a close shave across my neck. The shaver feels great in your hand, a really impressive ergonomic design, and the razor is designed well to glide across the skin – with each attachment doing its job. THE RESULTS I’ve been using the Braun Series 3 Shave&Style 3010BT for over two weeks now, and have been extremely impressed. I love the trimmer and comb attachements – it’s perfect for anyone with a moderate beard that wants to keep it neat and in check. I’ve used both wet and dry, and it hasn’t caused any kind of irritation or blemishes on my skin. The only downside I’ve found is that if you miss a longer hair with the precision trimmer, the foil shaver will likely glide over and won’t get it – so you need to swap back to trimmer head to get it. This can be a little frustrating if you’re in a rush. So with a few minor tweaks and improvements to the attachments, perhaps an integrated trimmer for the hairs you miss, this shaver would be outstanding. As it stands though, it’s still an extremely competent, all in one shaver that does exactly what you need it to. Whatever amount of growth you have – this is the trimmer for you! Definitely recommended.

Braun Shaver 3010BT. Fantastic!

4

Quickly to start, I got the Braun Series3 3010BT Wet & Dry and had to try it immediately. I had been letting my beard grow out by a bit too much. First of all, the shaver has a bit of heft to it, it feels well built as soon as you hold the thing. So do the attachments, most of this kit feels very well made. I recommend this kit wholeheartedly. I need to get what I didn't like out of the way. The precision head isn't good at getting little hairs off of my hand or shaved stubble. The strangest thing about the precision head though it left weird black marks on my skin. Living in the UK without one of those bathroom plugs for shavers I had to buy one of those British to European plugs. When taking off the heads, the three prongs inside jump up a little making it seem like it might break. Lastly, the shaving heads, apart from being a little tricky to get off, are a little too short for the style I prefer. Four combs, ranging from 1,2mm to 7mm. It's nothing a bit of patience can't fix. The good now, and there is a lot of it. Going from a full beard, a few inches thick and beginning to curl to nice and short took no effort. Put the shaver on charge for five minutes like the box said and I was shaving for the better part of an hour. (Including trying it out on my leg and hand, for testing.) It feels incredibly nice to use, I've tried shavers from 8 to 30 pound ones and they felt shaky in comparison. This doesn't dance in your hand or need to be fought with. I waited until my beard began to lose its shape from the first shave and cleaned it up, the shaver handled it, easy. The shaver takes at most 10 minutes to give you a full shave if you're being picky about length like me, a minute or two tops for a clean shave like I do on my neck. It caused no irritation or itchy spots. I love the kit, despite a handful of shortcomings, I'm incredibly pleased with how well the Braun works. Fine to coarse hairs aren't a problem and using the trimmer head without a comb fantastic on stubble. Cleaning the shaver took less than a minute, because of the flat design. The brush got any hairs trapped inside out in a few brushes as well from the inside of the heads and combs. I've already recommended this to friends with big beards and those who like a clean shave. It's easily the best shaver I've ever used.

Great bit of kit

Right the grooming kit has arrived so what do you get? On first glance the packaging is good and the instructions for use are easy to follow. Included in the box is a trimming attachment, five combs of different lengths 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 5mm and 7mm, a plastic guard for the foil razor, a cleaning brush, a power adapter and a storage bag for the combs The shaver itself is sleek in design and looks good in your hand and is lightweight. One early potential problem for some is that the plug to charge the grooming kit is for electric plugs found in bathrooms. Unfortunately I don't have one of these plugs in my bathroom. I had this problem with a previous shaver so already had an adapter I bought for this one. I've had a beard for a number of years and anyone who possesses a face full of hair knows that maintenance can be laborious and an annoying activity to complete. So when I was offered a grooming kit I jumped at the chance. I have tried a few in the past and have felt that they all had good qualities but I wasn't truly enamoured with any of them. Before this product I was using one to trim my beard and one to shape, so I was hoping that the functions suggested with this grooming kit would solve this for me. So on to the shave. I have never found a foil shaver that beats a razor blade and this shaver is no exception. The foil just doesn’t get close enough to remove the signs of stray hairs when attempting to shape my beard. Next was the actual beard. It took seconds to change the implements over and I was ready to go. The ease to alter the length of grooming is a great feature and one that I had to experiment with until I found the length I was after. The shaver is really easy to use and extremely manoeuvrable. It glided over my beard and I was really pleased with the end result. Flipping the comb off I then styled my beard and was done. The whole process was much quicker than my usual shave (once I discovered what length I wanted my beard) and all with one piece of kit. The shaver is charged really quickly and the battery life is excellent. I have a shaver that takes 10 hours to charge for 45 minutes of use, this shaver easily beats that. For me there are only two slight negatives to this product. The foil shaver not quite hitting the high expectations I had and the plug not having a mains adapter. Other than this, I think this is a quality piece of shaving kit and a must for beard enthusiasts.

Braun Series 3 Shave&Style is Brilliant

5

I was so excited to start using this electric Braun Series 3 Shave&Style. I have always used disposable razors as thought they gave a better result. I was amazed about the quality of the product. It is very easy to use, instructions are clear, but the most important thing is that it gives such a close, smooth result. There was no pulling sensation as the shaver tackled my facial growth giving me easily the closest shave I can recall. I love the fact that Braun Series 3 Shave&Style can be used both in wet and dry conditions. There is cleaning solution included so no further purchases are needed. The razor is very comfortable to hold and as I have sensitive skin not many razors are suitable but this one is. I would like to recommend it to everybody.

Loving this shaver!!

Had the Braun Series 3 Shave&Style 3010BT for a few weeks now, it's lightweight, smart and ultra efficient. My normal razor which was fairly expensive can't cope with 3 days of growth I would normally have to wet shave first. The Braun 3010BT had no such problem giving me a close clean shave in half the normal time. Easy to clean, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. Shame it doesn't come with a carry bag to keep the razor & trimmers all in one place.

Braun 3 in 1 s3 shave and style

3

After using this product for a few weeks now I can say it's a decent piece of kit. Out of the box it feels sturdy and well made. Although it doesn't shave as close as wet shaving it still does a pretty good job. It only takes a few minutes to have a decent shave with it. As you can use it wet or dry is another bonus. It's at home in the bathroom or in my kit bag. The only negative I could find was it only came with a two pronged plug, and as I don't have a shaver plug socket in my bathroom it was a bit inconvenient, but as an adapter can be bought for a few pounds its not a big problem. All in all this is a good shaver that is easy to use.
