All Braun but with brain!
5This was my first time on using a foil razor and Braun Series 5 5140s was a pleasant surprise. Unboxing presented a nice looking and practical shaver, and the buttons were located in an intelligent position. Normally I have always opted for a rotary razor, as I thought I could get a closer shave, but the 5140s performed just as well. The grip of the razor was very comfortable and help me get around the contours of my face very easily. It didn't leave my face feeling raw, and no cuts or sore areas were left behind. I found it very easy to clean, and with the added feature of it being waterproof, I could rinse it under the tap. I haven't taken it into the shower yet, or done a wet shave with it but I am sure that this would perform just as well. Overall, a perfect shaver!

My first electric razor!
4So I was apprehensive about an electric razor, this being my first, and had visions of my face being ripped apart with blood everyone, of course my imagination was running in overdrive! The razor felt good quality from the box, and once I understood how to use it, I quick started shaving and was impressed. It was easy to use, did not cause me any problems, left my skin feeling good, with no irritation, I could well be converted! I love the fact it can be rinsed and used in the shower, as this is where I normally shave anyway. It could do with a travel pouch, but apart from that I loved it and would recommend any one who is thinking of buying it! It is designed for modern life, waterproof, rechargeable and does what it says it should.

A close shave
5The Braun Series 5 5140s is an outstanding razor which has exceeded my expectations. The razor looks and feels great and you really notice the power the first time you turn it on. I prefer a wet shave and this razor has performed considerably better than my previous wet/dry electric razors in the same price bracket. The razor head pivots naturally to the contours of your face so you don't even realise it's doing so. The closeness of shave is the best aspect and it is the same as a non electric wet shave. It even achieves this for the hairs on your lower neck without any razor burn, which is a be bug bear of mine. You have the option of fixing the razor head into 5 set positions but I prefer the variable option. The strength and speed on the razor foils is really noticeable when washing the razor as the water makes a loud gurgling noise when washing foam off. Although I prefer the wet option, this razor performed well when using as a dry shave. Other features include a retractable razor for neck /sides which is pretty standard and the main head easily pops off to aid cleaning with a simply push of a button. Battery charge is also a positive (so far 7 shaves with with 2/3 battery life remaining from a full charge). I fully recommend this razor and would be really surprised if there was a better on the market for the price. A big thumbs up and 5stars.

A close shave
5The Braun series 5 5140s is a really good shaver for the price. It’s flexable head easily follows the contours of my chin and because of this can get the tricky hairs, giving me the closest electric shave I have had. I have had issue with electric shavers in the past pulling and causing irritation to my skin, the braun hasn’t caused any irritation to my skin in the 3 times I have used it. The unit it’s self is a ergonomic design and fits comfortably in the hand with a nice weight to it. The only slight negative is that it does vibrate quite a lot. The features of this shaver are the very close shave for a electric, the pivot head and the extension that’s like clippers. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone.

Close shave but very noisy
3I was quite excited to try this product as previously I had only had an electric razor with circular rotary heads. I decided I was going to try the shaver both dry and wet before reviewing. I put it on charge and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it charged. Really useful if you are in a hurry. Visually the razor is very nice and quite easy to hold. I first tried a dry shave and noticed as soon as I switched the razor on how extremely noisy it was. It was much louder than any razor I had used before. The shaving experience was quite nice but I noticed that even though to the touch it was quite a smooth shave I still looked a bit like Barney Rubble with a 5 o'clock shadow. So I wasn't actually as unshaven as I looked. Later in the week I decided to have a wet shave. This wasn't such a good experience and afterwards I could feel that there were patches of stubble left so once water and shaving foam were introduced the shave wasn't anywhere near as close as it was with a dry shave. The trim function did work well and gave good results. Overall the Braun Series 5 did give a good dry shave which is they way I normally shave anyway, for me it was just too noisy. I think this will act as an emergency shaver or one to take away with me when I am travelling overnight with work.

Absolutely brilliant
5I have used rotary shavers for years so was unsure what to expect with Braun Series 5. I have too say is has been the closest electric shave I have ever had. It's powerful and feels very good quality. I am extremely impressed with it. The battery indicator on the front is cleaned bright so you know when it's running low and needs to be charged and the adjustable head makes for more comfortable use. All in all the best shaver I have ever used. It's easy to clean with the removable head which also catches your hair cutting so you can shave anywhere not just the bathroom.

Sleek, smooth and speedy!
5Finally, an electric shaver which works comfortably! I have recently wet shaved due to my last electric shaver feeling as though it pulled at my skin so I was delighted to give this a try. On first impressions the shaver is sleek in design, lightweight and fits comfortably in your hand. It glides over your face and leaves a smooth, hairfree finish. Can easily be used in the shower/bath for convenience and would recommend to anyone looking to buy!

Braun 5 - Close but not close enough
3I've been a wet razor shaver since the ripe age of 15 (quite a few years ago) when a popular brand had a marketing campaign back in the 90s and sent free razors out to the UKs teens to get them hooked to the brand + spend a fortune on replacement blades!... So, for the past 25 years I've been a traditionalist using manual razors and I've always found them to do the job with a nice close shave. The chance to try out an electric shaver which would work in wet or dry conditions therefore presented itself as a new experience for me! On first impressions of the look and feel of the Braun Series 5 shaver I would have to say I was impressed - it looks like a nice bit of kit and holds nice in the hand. Unfortunately I didn't get to use it immediately as it comes with a standard 2 prong plug but my home isn't equipped with the shaver sockets required to charge the shaver (I don't know if I'm in a minority here but our of the 5 homes I've lived in only 1 of them has had a shaver socket). A trip to the shops 3 days after the arrival of the Braun 5 shaver and I was in the position to begin the experience. Charging the Braun 5 shaver was extremely fast ( I wished my phone was as quick) and within 20 minutes it had a full charge . I applied some shaving gel and set about the task in hand. The shaver glided over my skin with ease and the head adjusts itself comfortably over the contours - i found myself pulling the usual shave faces but this is from years of having to but I think the shaver gets to where it needs to without gurning required! The final results where pretty good overall but I did find that my upper lip moustache area was darker than my usual close shave razor efforts so I had to give it the once over with my traditional approach. I've used the Braun shaver for over a week now and it's been good but I'll struggle to make the switch as it doesn't get as good a result as I'm used to - i don't know if this is as good as it gets from an electric shaver having only tried one in the past 25 years! My suggestions to make the Braun 5 better would be.... Include an adaptor for standard plug charging. Include either a case or holder to store the shaver away or hold safely when not in use. Include a couple of starter sachets of gel... I use foam with wet shave so had to buy gel to get started. Improve shave closeness if possible. I would still recommend this product to a friend i just didn't feel that it gave a close enough shave for myself.

I am converted!
5I have used a rotary shaver since my teens and have always been fairly happy with the standard of shave I get. That was until I used the Braun Series 5 5140s a couple of weeks ago, I have not picked up my old rotary razor since. This foil shaver feels comfortably heavy and robust in my hand and glides effortlessly over my skin without leaving unsightly red marks. I intentionally left my daily shaving routine for a few days to see how the foil razor would cope with a little growth. I was pleasantly surprised and very happy with the results. Needless to say, I am a very happy convert!

Good daily razor with great battery life
4First impressions as unboxing were good. Razor feels good in the hand with premium feel materials. Also in the box are a foil cover and charger with standard two pin connection. A travel case / pouch is not included which is a shame for a rechargeable product which is otherwise convenient for travel. I have been using the series 5 for 2 weeks now and overall am happy and impressed. I charged it overnight for first charge and have used it daily since. The battery readout is still showing a full 3 bars and the razor still feels strong and powerful. I have tried it with 1 days and a couple of days growth and the series 5 handled both with no problems and no irritation to my skin. I have taken the razor on a short trip abroad and the built in lock (press and hold on button to activate or deactivate) proved very useful as does the strong battery life allowing a long trip without charges. The series 5 also includes a pivoting shaver head to follow the contours of the face plus there is some movement in the foil to give a close comfortable shave. The shave is as good as any foil shaver I have used but not quite as good as a traditional wet shave. The series 5 also allows use dry / wet or with foam so is very versatile and easy to clean. Replacement foil and cutters are also available so this should last me for some time.
