Good solid razor
4I have been using this razor daily for around a week now and have tried it both as a dry shave and with foam. My usual shaving regime is with a rotary style electric for day to day shaving and a vintage single blade safety razor for special occasions. I have to shave daily (sometimes twice) as my beard growth is both rapid and thick. First the good. It feels great in the hand. It has a nice weight to it and doesn't feel like a children's toy. The battery holds its charge extremely well. I charged it for a few hours the morning I got it and have not had to give it a boost since despite some considerable use. There is a good battery indicator on the front that tells you the power level and it hasn't dropped below two bars. The razor has a lock function. This is something all razors should have but don't! Press and hold the power button and it stops the razor being turned on. No more arriving at your hotel room on a trip away with a flat battery! The swivel head is a nice touch and replaces the need to be dexterous with the razor to get every contour on your face. Now the not so good. I don't think it gives me as good a shave as my previous razor. This may just be due to my growth type and I'm sure it will work well for other people. A carry case would have been a nice bonus As you can see, the good far outweighs the negative! Whilst my razor of choice will always be the classic razor blade, this is a more than reasonable electric device for day to day use.

Good well balanced shaver
4I have been using Philishave products with the 3 round heads for over 20 years after a recommendation from my father. I've never before bought a different type of shaver just to try. However this Braun S5 works really well. Only 1 week into it so far so its hard to be definitive but it feels easier to shave with and quicker. The 3 pivoting heads of the philips more mold to the face, but the Braun moves across the face and neck faster and more effectively. Cleaning this shaver is also much easier and less messy. I like the wet and dry feature but I have yet to try it when I have a shower as I am used to shaving when my face is dry.

Making dry razors redundant!
5It was going to take something special to replace my old electric razor. When I started using the Braun series 5 I was so impressed by every aspect of it. It looks great to start with, but more importantly it glides softy across the skin and couldn't believe how close it shaves. Normally I would need my dry razor to finish off the hard to reach areas on my face, but I found that it has become redundant since using this. Should save quite a lot of money from not having to buy heads for it! I thought I wouldn't be able to find a razor to match my old one, but this one surpasses all expectations, would wholeheartedly recommend the Braun 5 series.

Lots of promises but it barely delivers
2The shaver promises a lot, a close and clean shave with new technology enabled to protect your skin by determining the length of the hair and therefore tailoring the shave to you. I was very excited to get going. I unpacked straight away and was very impressed by how smart it looked in its box with all the other components provided. I plugged it in and let it charge for a good few hours, I really liked how visible the charging process was and that I knew when it was time. Turning it on began the descent. It sounds like a car engine, very aggressive sounding, it made me nervous to put it on my skin! If you want a discrete and quiet journey, unfortunately this isn’t for you. I proceeded and used it on my skin and whilst it did the job, I had a close and relatively clean shave in a limited amount of time, a few hours later I had the worst shaving rash I’ve ever had along with nicks and cuts on my face. It was mortifying to go into public! I know it takes a while to get used to a new shaving routine so I have now tried it for a week, but even with lots of creams, oils and cleansing routines, I have the same issues so I can’t rate this well. I was excited, so many promises, but unfortunately I won’t be using this again and will be going back to my old, not as close, but less painful shaving routine. Whilst it is not for me, others may have better luck.

An Awsome Close Shave!
5I have been using the Braun Series 5 5140 shaver for just over a week now and can honestly say it is the closest electric shaver to a manual shave I have ever found! It has a great lock in feature that allows you to lock the head in certain positions which gives you precision when shaving your more difficult areas. After every shave I check my face and can honestly say I haven't had to re-shave any missed areas. Which is a definite bonus when you are in a rush! There is also a side trimmer which you can lock into place in the handle, this is great for your sideburns and if you wanted to trimming (I don't personally do this but you could). It is also great you can use the shaver in the shower. At first I was a little nervous at using it in the shower as I am clumsy at the best of times but to add water to the mix is normally a recipe for disaster but the grip on the shaver is excellent so you shave with confidence even in the shower. And the quality of the shave is just as good in the shower as it is out. The shaver is easy to clean, you just remove the head plate and rinse, that's it! It is not only the quality of the shave that is good about the Series 5 5140, it also looks good and has a battery indicator on the handle so you know when you are running low and need to charge. The charge on the shaver is better than average and I have only just had to put the shaver on charge. Although, it doesn't take forever to re-charge. This is a definite plus if you travel as it has a good battery life and doesn't take long to charge. I would definitely recommend this shaver!

3The Braun S5 5140s is an impressive shaver, the design is very appealing and ergonomic, it feels comfortable to hold and is effortless in achieving that desired close shave. The battery (so far) is impeccable I have had it for more than 2 weeks and only charged when I received it, this might not be as jaw dropping as you'd expect but given that the 3 bar display is still full after 18 days I consider it impeccable. Cleaning the device is straight forward very easy to disassemble it and even easier to put back together, very user friendly! The worst thing about this shaver is the noise, before using this shaver I used a Philips series 3000, which in comparison the Philips was silent and the Braun feels like I'm going to wake up everyone in the house if I shave before 7am. I'm trying hard not to exaggerate here, this is a very noisy shaver! 3 weeks ago you could have paid up to £200 for the Braun S5 (thankfully I didn't), now you would be looking to pay up to £100 this for me is a good price. This shaver can be used in the shower, a very nice feature but a feature I don't think I would ever use I would rather Braun spent the time and development reducing the noise. Thinking of my dad here, who has rheumatoid arthritis, would really struggle with the vibration of the S5 despite the ergonomic grip. In conclusion I rate the Braun S5 5140s 3 stars out of 5, I wanted to rate it 3.5 but as that is not an option here and I just can't bring myself to give it 4 stars it will have to be 3, it really is a lovely shaver but the noise, good god the noise! If you really don't mind a very noisy shaver then I would recommend the S5 all day long.

Precision and comfort
5I have really enjoyed using the razor over the past week. I have found it to be very easy to use and specifically for me I don't get a neck rash after using it. Some nice features standout for me such as, rubberised grip, battery life of around a week per charge, easy to maintain and clean. The only negative I would say is that it is not small, so I would not consider this a holiday razor, but day to day it's excellent.

New Braun Series 5 5140s
4The Braun series 5 5140s is an excellent shaver that gives the user the choice of a wet or dry shave. The ergonomic design easily fits in the hand and is easily operated with one hand. The contour following head allows the shaver to easily glide over the face and aids to giving a closer shave than a normal electric shaver. The added bonus of a side trimmer is easy to use and locks in place within the handle and is easily released from its locked position. Unlike most shavers that just start to die on you when you have done half your face, the 5140s gives a 3 bar LED battery level I am still on the first charge and the full charge has not moved yet. The 5140s is easily cleaned by the removal of the head plate which can be rinsed under water. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a wet and dry shaver that gives a great shave in both modes.

Braun Series 5 - Close as a wet shave!
5It has been many years since I used an electric shaver, preferring instead to wet shave as I always felt an electric never gave a close enough shave. Well my opinions have changed since using the Braun 5140s, it fits comfortably into the hand and gives a great shave with its swivel head allowing me to move the cutting blades to the most efficient position. Easy to clean and with a useful trimmer accessory it is an ideal shaver, a long recharge capacity has also proved very useful as I can take it wherever I want. My only concern is that it may well disappear from my grasp as I have 3 student daughters who like the concept of taking an electric razor into the shower to "do" their legs...

Best electric shaver I've used
4I have to get this in the open before I begin... I've never been a big fan of electric shavers. I personally don't feel like they're any faster or more convenient than a conventional razor. I have used a few different electric shavers of varying males and this is definitely the best I have used. It's quick. Quick to charge and quick to use. I sometimes find electric shavers take a while to get to all the little hairs around, especially round the jaw line but this picked up everything really well. I like the quick charge function and it really does work after 5 minutes which was quite a surprise, and good for people like me who run it flat and the forget to charge it before the next use (one reason why I prefer a conventional razor!) In terms of shaving performance I think it did well. I don't think it gives as close a shave as a conventional razor but it comes pretty close. It definitely outperforms others I've used in this area. Another good feature is that it's waterproof and can be used with shaving foam, which helps if you are like me and have sensitive skin which doesn't enjoy having a metal shaving head rubbed up against it as you're trying to get all little bits of stubble! It's also really easy to clean, as you can detach the cutting blades and wash them under the tap. The only downside is that it's a bit noisy to use but I can't fault it for performance. Overall it's definitely something I would happily go out and buy! Despite all the issues I have with electric shavers I think this might actually be the one to convert me (almost!)
