First time but not the last !!

As a first time user of an epilator I am definitely converted!! I found the Braun epilator so easy to use once I had looked at it. I used it on my legs and I didn't have any discomfort until I did my big toes. I have to say I am used to having my legs waxed and the hairs on my legs are quite sparse so maybe that is why I didn't feel any pain. When I epilated I had varying lengths of hairs some long and some short and the Braun coped with them all very well leaving my legs silky smooth I found it quick to do with very little effort and the added bonus of no smell or sticky wax unlike chemical or waxing techniques. After use it was easy to clean and I had no reaction to the epilation. I would give this product a full 5 stars if it had been rechargeable cordless although that's just me being picky as most of our gadgets are cordless. My friends are impressed with the excellent results and I am checking there handbags before they leave !!

braun silk-epil 5! worth £100?

When i saw that i had been accepted to trial the braun silk-epil i was excited as my previous epilator had been lost when i moved house and i didn't know which would be a good one to replace it with as there's so many around and i also didn't want to spend a huge amount so i didn't end up replacing it and have been using shaving as a method to remove hair which is not as effective. Epilating has always been a painful but worthwhile method of hair removal for me and i was hoping that this epilator would be more effective and hopefully less painful than previous ones i have owned. I have used braun epilators in the past so wasn't surprised by the two prong plug it comes with as all my other braun epilators where the same so luckily i had the right adapter so i can plug this in at the wall but upon speaking to people about the epilator everyone was surprised it was a two prong plug and i think if i wasnt expecting it i too would have been suprised. I plugged the epilator in to charge and left it and when i came back to the epilator i realised it can only be used whilst plugged in, this is a first for me and although not a problem, it would have been a plus to be a bit more portable. I have poly cystic ovaries and so have quite alot of hair that i like to remove so have used this epilator daily since having it. I started in less painful places in case the new epilator hurt more than the others i have used in the past and i didnt find it too bad. I started with my legs and i didnt use the icepack as i knew what to expect but i dont think even a first time user would find the pain too much to cope with and would maybe just grit their teeth for a minute until they got used to it. I like that it did grip even really short hairs and didnt feel too aggressive and any redness didnt stay for long. I have had my legs out alot the past week as its been really hot and the hair has hardly come back yet, its only come back in small areas that have taken no time to deal with again so once the initial removal has been done (whole leg) its just been a case of upkeep. As said above i have poly cystic ovaries (PCOS) so my hair does grow back quicker than normal so a non pcos sufferer would probably get an even better result. I also really liked the fact that the head of the epilator moved along with the contours of the body as i feel this made the epilator grip more hairs more easily as it was always very close to the skin, i think this could also be why its less painful as the pull of the hair felt close to the skin and it didnt miss as many hairs, so although i had to go over patches a few times sometimes, it still grabbed the majority on the first sweep over a patch. I have used the epilator on my neck which is a painful place to epilate, i found this epilator to be less painful than any i have used so far but it was still quite painful. I like that once i had done the initial removal of all the hair with the epilator i can now just go over it daily for the few that come back through or couldnt quite be grabbed first go, which is brilliant. It doesnt grip all the hairs on my chin but again this could be because i have pcos and the hairs are thick and the epilator maybe wasnt designed with this area in mind as it did leave some scabs on the chin area where it was pulling my skin and where i was going over and over the area to try get it to grip the hair and i do still have to pluck this area myself with tweezers. I liked the variety of heads included as there seems to be something for everything, but i do use the main head the most as i find it the most effective as its closer to the skin and i can see what its grabbing easier. Overall i really liked the silk-epil 5 but i dont think it warrants its £100 price tag, i would be sad if i had spent that amount on it when the other braun epilators are cheaper and although slightly less effective, are not that much different in comparison and maybe would win because they can be charged and are mobile which is needed if like me you have children and need to not be tied to one spot.

silk-epil 5 first time user review

well i cannot fault this product i'm always worried when i use a new one but this one was fantastic i opened it all up read all the instructions etc pretty straight forward, couldn't wait for my cool pack to be cold ready for my first use, there was a small amount of pain with the first stroke but after that it was pain free quick easy and i left it for maybe 4-5 days before i noticed any stubble of any kind, without a doubt this has to be the best epilator ive used.

The real deal

Took me a long time to pluck up the courage to actually try this as I had been told that it hurts. I thought it was fab that the product comes with a cooling glove (essentially an ice pack) that you put in the freezer two hours before use and you can use it to almost numb the skin before epilating and cool after epilating. The epilator also comes with different head adapters for different body parts, and has 2 speed controls. This is particular useful as a beginner when you are not ready to be quite so full on straight away. I used the epilator on my tummy and my legs and the experience it's self was not as painful as expected. However it was still a little uncomfortable but no more than any other hair removal i.e waxing. Saying this, I have not yet been brave enough to epilate more sensitive areas. My skin felt great after, really was very smooth and the epilator really did remove every little hair. I had to drag the epilator in many different directions over my skin to do this as my hair grows in different directions. I have tried this twice since and have had a good experience both times. It takes no more time than shaving would, but the results last a lot longer. I found I got better results if I fully exfoliated before epilating, but still had good results without. Overall, found this product brilliant and have not stopped telling everyone. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and my hair grows very fast so this product is a godsend in that sense. If you can get past the initial fear that I had, it's definitely worth it!

Silk-Epil 5, not as impressed as I thought I'd be

3

Must admit I'm brand new to epilating and liked the look of the ice pack that promised a numbing sensation. I read various review of the Silk-Epil 5 online and was impressed with what people had to say about it. So with much excitement and a touch (ok maybe more) of nervousness I sat down to try the epilator. My first disappointment was with the plug, it has a two prong shaving plug with needs an adaptor to fit a normal plug. Yes they are cheap and easy to get hold of but that's not much consolation when you've sat down in your pants ready to epilate your legs. Thankfully I was able to find one in the house and continue. The instructions aren't the best, they seem scattered over the pages and in no obvious order. The numbing pad does make a difference but not for long. I found it soon 'defrosted' and made no difference. I don't know if that is because it's summer or a design fault but it was slightly disappointing. However I found if I used it for the first 'patch' it took the shock away and I was able to continue with the rest of my leg without it. The instructions mentioned using the roller top if you were new so I tried that on the gentler setting. Vibrations were loud but that didn't bother me - just turned the TV up! However I soon turned it up to the other setting as I found it kept missing patches. Maybe I'm too fast running it up my leg (after countless years of shaving) because I kept having to go back and redo areas. The light is a great touch and helps you see the smaller hairs. The sensation itself is similar to getting a tattoo, a sharp pulling twinge that you soon get used to. And the instructions that say do it on recently shaved hairs are right - it hurts tons more on week old or longer stubble. The blotches that appear on the skin after the first use soon go away and only faintly appeared second time. Would recommend doing it on an evening so skin can calm over night. Despite the good points and running it over my legs several times I still find patches a day or two later and the claim it'll pick up a hair the same size as a grain of sand seems unrealised. It's definitely got me into epilators, thought it'll be a while before I brave underarm and bikini, and I'll be getting another when this one gives out. Can't honestly say I'll get this definite model again though, it has so much going for it (such as been wonderfully light, easy to hold, been a wired product which I prefer as it means it won't cut out halfway through and coming with plenty of accessories and a handy drawstring bag, but I found it doesn't pick up all that well. Maybe that's my method and there's a knack I need to learn but for now it's disappointing that it takes at least half an hour per leg then I end up fixing patches the next day.

Braun Silk-Epil 5, Unfortunately Without The Appeal!

3

I got my hands on this last week, and the kit looked great. It had the epilator itself, which is unfortunately wasn't corded, as well as the different shaving heads and caps to use with it. I first tried the epilator on my legs, on the first setting, as I have used epilators in the past, but not for a while. The thing I don't like about them is you have to constantly stretch your skin whilst operating it, for it to pull the hairs out properly. It's pretty irritating to have extra work to do as well. I guess you don't have to stretch it, but it does grab the hairs that way, which is painful! The epilator is lightweight, but I don't like the fact it isn't cordless, it's much harder to use as the cord gets in the way. I didn't find the product that appealing at all, and the results on my legs didn't last long at all. It definitely didn't feel at all silky and I was dissapointed. I then tried the epilator with the different head, for my underarm, I have never used an epilator on my underarms before, and I know why now. It was awful, and I had to stop. It was literally pulling the hairs out so harshly and it was not at all comfortable! Overall, the epilator was not as good as I was expecting, but I would use it on my legs if I didn't have a razor available, but it really wasn't as good as I thought it would be unfortunately.

Braun silk epil5- wowzers!

After many years being scared to try an epilator I'm so glad I started with this! A few giggles and screams at 1st but after a few minutes it's a breeze the cooling pads a good send but more of a treat then to get rid of pain it's soothing and colon and helps on the more sensitive parts, the razor head included is also a great accessory I used that 1st and was impressed so many attachments for all areas. After using this for a couple of weeks my hairs are already coming back slower and thinner! I'm only sorry I didn't try sooner great epilator great shaver easy to wash as it's water proof the light is Also a great little extra all in all go get it! You won't be disappointed but you will be silky smooth.

Nowhere near as painful as I thought

I was scared by epilators, from hearing what other people have said about it. It turns out I needn't have been, as someone who has waxed in the past, this epilators was far less painful than waxing! The sound when you turn it on for the first time can be off putting as it's quite loud, but try to see past that. It comes with a cool pack which, upon rubbing over the legs makes it almost pain free. I am a self confessed wimp and it was fine, if anything the massaging beads acted as a distraction to the minimal pain. The actual epilators worked well and gave very smooth results, but you do need to leave the hair to grow a tiny but before it works completely effectively. The variety of interchangeable heads are also great for getting every area, such as ankles where it can be difficult to use the main head. All in all I think this is a great option, hasn't left me with any ingrown hairs like shaving sometimes does.

Epilation, not for the faint hearted

So, I was so excited to receive my silk epil 5 and bit it going straight away, the plug was included and there were several heads and attachments, plugged it in gritted my teeth and went in for the legs, not too bad I thought, but this was my first time and the hairs were very short, I found it easy to use but had to go over the area several times to get all the small hairs, a few days later I tried again, the remaining hair was a bit longer now and it hurt!! I used the free freeze pouch to numb my legs and gritted my teeth, as I slid the epilator over my skin I could feel it tugging out the hairs, again it took several attempts to get all the hairs, the finish was ok but not 100% so I will keep trying.........

Silk Epil 5 review

I was a bit apprehensive about using an epilator for the first time, but once I got my head round the instruction manual it was very easy to use. Yes there was a bit of discomfort and redness the 1st few times I used it but that gets less and less each time I have used it. I epilated at night to allow the redness time to go down like the manual suggests. I recommend to anyone that they do this especially if you are using it on your face. The built in light on the epilator made it very easy to see and of the light or fine hairs I would previously missed whilst shaving. The shaving attachment that came with this model also came in handy. The one thing I did find with this model was that it that it came with a 2 prong plug so make sure you buy an adaptor for it when you get one if you don't already own one. Overall I would recommend this to anyone that asked and will not go back to using a razor
