Eye watering stuff

I received my new silk-epil epilator with great delight and could not wait to give it a go. The packaging of this product I thought was appealing and being able to actually see the epilator was subconsciously reassuring. Although I failed to see were on the box that it states I needed to buy an adaptor for the plug :( this was a major disappointment for me I must admit. I had a read of the instructions, chucked the gel pack in the freezer and prepared to have a go :) The instruction manual is good the fact that there are picture 'tutorials' as well as written information makes it even easier to follow, the individual adaptor descriptions are some what brief though. I retrieved the gel pack from the freezer and inserted it into the hand mitt, although this part is optional for optimal use and minimum pain I decided to include this in my trial. I felt that the mitt was not a good shape for my hand nor did the actual gel insert fit well, thus not giving and even cooling sensation, the instructions state to not leave it on for more than two minutes but I felt some areas needed longer purely for the fact the mitt is I'm sorry to say inadequate :/ and froze my hand before cooling the area meant for epilation. Maybe a hand shaped gel mitt would have been more appropriate for optimal comfort. I was pleased with the overall shape feel and weight of the product it sits well in the hand and does not feel top heavy which is great when using it in varying positions. The colours of the casing are neutral with some parts of the head adaptors matching the hand device. The length of the cord is BRILLIANT, it enables the user to position the device and the 'body' part to an comfortable position. The only negative about the cable is pulls out of the hand set a little easier than hoped. The control dial is not well designed I'm not sure whether it is the placement or the twist operation that makes me feel like this, but is a good size and having a speed option either side of the off setting is reassuring as no one wants to accidently up the speed in a delicate situation ;). The little light is absolutely fantastic!!! It shows up ALL the little hairs and gives a good diameter of light output given its size I was well impressed!!! The individual heads are easily changed and there are 3 heads and a trimmer attachment to choose from. I felt the massage one to be the most comfortable but the little rollers did pinch the my hair a little sort of like a pre pluck which was not great. The cleaning brush is not very good at its job at all especially for getting all the surplus hair out of the blades (I'm no hairy Mary either)but it collected mostly right under the main blade housing allowing it to go every where when cleaning.

So as a confirmed wuss and epilator virgin, I was not massively looking forward to this, but hate shaving my legs, only just stopped crying from the first and last time I waxed and cannot abide the smell of creams..... I at first thought it was rechargeable, so after the initial confusion, I read the instructions, which were pretty straight forward, I also familiarised myself with the array of attachments and accessories that come with the epilator. Loads of different attachments for different body areas, or gentle epilating. Once I had cooled the gel pack in the freezer, I decided to give the epilator a try, I had not shaved my legs for 10 days, so they were quite stubbly, I clicked the epilator head into place along with the attachment for gentle depilating..and off I went...I won't lie, it hurt a little bit, but this is where the magic of the cooling glove came into it's own, the gel pack is removed from the freezer and inserted into the silver glove, I then applied to my skin for approx 20/30 seconds before depilating, it made it totally pain free, I was amazed, and managed to epilate both legs quite happily. The results for a first time user were pretty good, only a couple of small areas I had to go over again, but this would be down to my poor technique rather than a problem with the device. My legs are smooth and I suffered no irritation or stinging at all, just a few red dots, which faded within a minute or so..which also pleasantly surprised me. I would definitely recommend this epilator, my only negative is that it is not cordless, so I had to sit on the floor near a plug socket to use it.

With eyes squeezed tightly shut I dreaded the pain..... But I was pleasantly surprised! No where near what I thought it would be! I tried one leg with cooling pad and one without! Didn't make much difference prior to epilating but definitely made a difference afterwards x didn't see a huge difference between heads and a little fiddly to change, I would also recommend doing smaller areas first if you are changing heads as I found mine got a but hot after doing legs? I'm not that hairy I promise! I think it might be because I was taking my time? Wasn't really expecting the need to get a plug for it, I know it's a standard thing but it's always been a bug bare of mine.... If on sale in the uk then surely it should be sold ready to use? Handling? The design is pretty, good grip, maybe a tad on the chunky side but over all nice to use! Performance? Well not much fun going around the ankle or sensitive areas but a smooth clean finish! Better than I expected and not as sore/ painful as I thought either! Would I use it again? Yes I think I would I think it would be a great alternative to waxing, would save money in the long run and has a better finish! Would I recommend it to someone else? Yes!!! I really would! I would say.... Throw out the negative idea /image you have of the scary epilators from the 80s or 90s and know that it's much less... Painful and much more private than going to a salon for someone to wax parts you'd rather keep hidden ;))) x x

Never used an epilator before and was looking forward to using the product. It was a great product left my skin smooth. The only issue I had with it was finding a plug to convert into English form American. Apart from that once the plug issue was sorted I feel in love with it. I wouldn't go back to a disposable razor! The cooler pack is great for after too! Feels great!

fantastic results

When using it for the first time I found it rather painfull but got used to it after a while and it's worth the discomfort as the results are fantastic my legs stay smoother for longer I also lent it to a friend who was impressed with the results and is going to purchase her own. A down side to receiving the product is that it only comes with a shaver plug so an adapter is required x

Popped My Braun Silk-5 Epilator Cherry - Amazing

Ive been itching to buy an eplilator for ages but due to other people telling me how much it hurt, didn't take the plunge.. However, this campaign was for me... :)The product looked good and the only downside for me was that it was cable operated and in today's day perhaps batteries would have been better. As you don't always want to sit grooming in the bathroom.Once i started it was pretty easy and painless. If you hold the skin whilst epilating a tip to share then it doesn't pinch as much.. The end result was fab a little red, so the ice pack which is part of the accessories was great.. NO real sore issues and my legs were as smooth as a babies bottom :)I definitely wont be going back to the wax, however, haven't yet been brave enough to try epliating the arm pits, but will have a go.So the moto appears to be once you epliate you don't go back .. Its a definite great move and I cant believe after 41 years I haven't tried it before ! Go Girls..

Great product

A simple, easy to use epilator with a cool gel for aftercare, would definitely recommend to others! The different settings allow you to choose between efficiency and easy on the pain, rather than having no option - great for first time users. I also like the cooling pack that comes with it, especially as my skin was quite red after using for the first time.

This was my first time using an epilator but it won't be my last. The Braun Silk-Epil 5 is perfect for a first time user. There are plenty of attachments to help ease the pain - I particularly like the massaging rollers. If it gets uncomfortable there is a special soothing pack which you keep in the freezer. This was included in the box.Hair removal is good and my legs felt smooth afterwards. This improved on the second use (probably as my skin reacted less). I haven't tried it anywhere apart from my legs but the epilator is suitable for many areas. (Each with it's own attachment). The instructions were in depth and helped me out as a first time user. The epilator itself is a nice design and is compact for easy storage. One (very) slight quibble is that the on/off button isn't overly easy to grip. The epilator plugs into a shaving socket which is fine for me but perhaps some people would prefer a battery powered one.Overall a very good product which I will continue to use and would recommend.

Not an epilator virgin

I have used an epilator before but I gave up a year or so ago as I found the one I was using was so time consuming and didn't do a great job, so I couldn't wait to try the Silk-Epil. It was nicely packaged and as we have a shaver socket in the bathroom, it was no problem to charge up. The Olay wipes were a nice touch as they cool down your legs before you start.Well firstly I loved the light. It makes it so easy to see what you are doing and also makes it obvious if you need to go over a section again. Great idea guys. The pivoting head is also really good. I don't need to go into contortions to reach the back of my legs, which is quite important as I nearly fell off my bathroom stool using my last epilator! The speed settings are good and make you feel in control of things. It is slower than shaving but then again you stay hair free and smooth much longer so I think it is worth the extra time. I don't find it particularly painful but of course it is more painful than shaving. I shall be interested to see how long my legs feels smooth for. I must admit I have not tried my underarms yet but I may brace myself and have a go!

Silk-Epil 5, not as impressed as I thought I'd be

3

Must admit I'm brand new to epilating and liked the look of the ice pack that promised a numbing sensation. I read various review of the Silk-Epil 5 online and was impressed with what people had to say about it. So with much excitement and a touch (ok maybe more) of nervousness I sat down to try the epilator. My first disappointment was with the plug, it has a two prong shaving plug with needs an adaptor to fit a normal plug. Yes they are cheap and easy to get hold of but that's not much consolation when you've sat down in your pants ready to epilate your legs. Thankfully I was able to find one in the house and continue. The instructions aren't the best, they seem scattered over the pages and in no obvious order. The numbing pad does make a difference but not for long. I found it soon 'defrosted' and made no difference. I don't know if that is because it's summer or a design fault but it was slightly disappointing. However I found if I used it for the first 'patch' it took the shock away and I was able to continue with the rest of my leg without it.The instructions mentioned using the roller top if you were new so I tried that on the gentler setting. Vibrations were loud but that didn't bother me - just turned the TV up! However I soon turned it up to the other setting as I found it kept missing patches. Maybe I'm too fast running it up my leg (after countless years of shaving) because I kept having to go back and redo areas. The light is a great touch and helps you see the smaller hairs. The sensation itself is similar to getting a tattoo, a sharp pulling twinge that you soon get used to. And the instructions that say do it on recently shaved hairs are right - it hurts tons more on week old or longer stubble. The blotches that appear on the skin after the first use soon go away and only faintly appeared second time. Would recommend doing it on an evening so skin can calm over night.Despite the good points and running it over my legs several times I still find patches a day or two later and the claim it'll pick up a hair the same size as a grain of sand seems unrealised. It's definitely got me into epilators, thought it'll be a while before I brave underarm and bikini, and I'll be getting another when this one gives out. Can't honestly say I'll get this definite model again though, it has so much going for it (such as been wonderfully light, easy to hold, been a wired product which I prefer as it means it won't cut out halfway through and coming with plenty of accessories and a handy drawstring bag, but I found it doesn't pick up all that well. Maybe that's my method and there's a knack I need to learn but for now it's disappointing that it takes at least half an hour per leg then I end up fixing patches the next day.
